LUC 2017 Recap: Using Lectora With Google Docs to Simulate xAPI

At this year’s Lectora® User Conference in Cincinnati, Domenic Caloia of Tyco International and Johnson Controls presented “Using Lectora with Google Docs to simulate xAPI.” In the session, he went through the process of capturing xAPI-like data using only Lectora and Google Docs. Included was a very cool application of using time codes to determine if a learner watched a whole video. He also used a real time example to show us the course and data being collected during the session. Below is an overview of the process.

1. Add a test.
2. Add a question onto the page (optional: rename the variable associated to the question).
3. Hide all question objects from the page using inheritance.
4. Insert in a video onto the questions page.
5. Add events to the video at three stops.
6. Set the events to synchronize with actions that modify the question variable to a specific value at the three stops.
7. Set the video to process the question once complete.
8. Set the question to only pass if the variable value includes the specific value met at the end of the video.
9. Set the value to pass to Google Docs using Lectora’s preset options.
