Nashville Notes: LUC 2015 at the Music City Center

Blog_NashvilleNotesMCC

Every year, we lock ourselves in a room and ask ourselves “What will be the perfect conference location for our Lectora® and CourseMill® users? What will they enjoy the most?” And then we spend hours deliberating, sustaining ourselves only on terrible office coffee and whatever mysterious baked goods someone left in the kitchen until we pick a location—or someone unlocks the door and lets us out.

Okay, maybe that’s not quite how it happens. But we do work hard to pick an exciting location for you. This year’s Lectora User Conference location is the brand-new Music City Center in the heart of downtown Nashville! We’re looking forward to the Music City Center for a lot of reasons, but here are a couple of them:

It’s walk-able.

Many of you requested a location that was close to entertainment and restaurants. We think you’ll be excited about how close the Music City Center is to hotels, restaurants and live music. Take a look at this walking map for some of the nearby highlights: Downtown Nashville Walking Map.

It’s forward-thinking.

Our theme this year is “Find the Future,” and the Music City Center is definitely looking toward the future. One example is the new Music City Center App, complete with a wayfinding system that uses beacon technology to help you navigate your way through the 1.2 million square foot facility. This new technology automatically locates where you are in the convention center and directs you to a destination, whether it’s a meeting room, restroom or the parking garage. The app can pinpoint your location anywhere in the building and provide precise, turn-by-turn, photo-based directions.

The wayfinding system is the first of its kind to clearly show users how to find where they want to go inside a building using photos from inside that building. Dr. Jules White, an Assistant Professor of Electric Engineering & Computer Science at Vanderbilt, and a team of Vanderbilt students created the app as part of a class project.

The new Music City Center Wayfinding App is available on iTunes and Google Play. To download, search keyword “Nashville Music City Center.”
